OTADVR Support

Requirements

• macOS 14.4 (Sonoma) or later
• HDHomeRun tuner (DUAL, QUATRO, CONNECT, EXTEND, or FLEX) on your local network
• An outdoor or attic OTA antenna connected to your HDHomeRun
• hdhomerun_config command-line tool installed via Homebrew (brew install hdhomerun)

Getting Started

• Launch OTADVR — it will automatically discover HDHomeRun devices on your network
• Go to Devices → Channels and tap Scan → Update Scan to find your channels
• Once channels are found, use On Now to see what's currently airing and tap Watch
• The TV Guide uses PSIP data broadcast in the signal — tap Refresh Guide to load listings

No channels found after scan

• Check your antenna connection and that the HDHomeRun is powered on
• Open a browser and go to http://my.hdhomerun.com — if your device appears there, OTADVR can find it
• Try running hdhomerun_config discover in Terminal to confirm the CLI tool is installed
• Ensure your Mac and HDHomeRun are on the same network/subnet

Recordings have no video in QuickTime

OTADVR records raw MPEG-2 ATSC streams. Modern macOS QuickTime does not include an MPEG-2 video decoder for HD content. Use the built-in Play button in the Recordings tab — OTADVR's built-in player uses VideoToolbox to decode MPEG-2 natively and will show both video and audio correctly.

TV Guide shows no listings

PSIP guide data is broadcast in the OTA signal itself. Select a channel with good signal and tap the calendar button to fetch guide data for that channel. The app also fetches guide data automatically on launch for channels with expired listings.

OTA Map shows no towers

Enter your address or postal code in the search bar at the top of the OTA Map panel, or tap the location button to use your current location. Towers will load within a few seconds. Use the radius picker to expand the search area if needed.
